A Workshop Built Around the Work

Ratna Wira was formed on the belief that a mechanical watch deserves patient, personal attention. We work from Jalan Perak and keep our practice deliberately small.

Our Story

Jalan Perak, Since 2009

Ratna Wira began as a two-bench workshop occupying the ground floor of a heritage shophouse on Jalan Perak — a street that has long been associated with considered craft and commerce in Kuala Lumpur's commercial core. The name, drawn from Malay, speaks to the value we place on the objects entrusted to us.

In the years since opening, the workshop has grown in scope but not in disposition. We remain a small practice. Every watch that arrives is assessed by the same team member throughout its stay. Nothing passes anonymously through a larger operation.

Our clients include daily wearers returning a working watch to good order, collectors seeking extended care for pieces of rarity, and families bringing in watches that have passed between generations. We approach each category with the same measured attention.

What We Stand Behind

Transparency above all. Nothing is done to a watch without discussion. No charge is added without prior agreement. The intake assessment is written and shared with you.

Time taken honestly. Regulation is observed over several days. Extended programmes run to the timeline they require. We do not rush.

Conservation where appropriate. Particularly for older and rarer pieces, we work to preserve original character rather than impose a polished uniformity.

Honesty about limits. If a piece is outside the range of our work, we say so at intake rather than attempt work we cannot do well.

The Team

The People Behind Each Piece

Our team is small by design. Every person in the workshop has a defined role and a close familiarity with the pieces they handle.

How We Work

Written Documentation

Every watch receives a written intake record noting its observed condition. For the Long-Form Programme, key decisions and findings are documented at each major stage.

Photographic Records

Photographs are taken on intake, during significant service stages, and on completion. These form part of the watch's service history and are shared with the owner.

Pressure Testing

Where a watch is designed to be water resistant, pressure testing is conducted after all sealing gaskets have been renewed. Results are documented and discussed with the owner.

Multi-Position Regulation

Following reassembly, mechanical movements are regulated across multiple positions and observed over several days before the service is considered complete.

Secure Custody

Watches in our care are stored securely at all times. Access to the workshop is controlled, and no piece leaves the premises without authorisation from the registered owner.

No Surprise Costs

Additional work beyond the agreed scope is discussed and approved before it proceeds. No charge is added without prior conversation. The intake assessment includes a cost indication before any commitment is made.

Watch Repair in Kuala Lumpur

Ratna Wira operates from Jalan Perak in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, serving watch owners across Klang Valley and beyond. Our workshop handles mechanical calibres from a wide range of Swiss, German, and Japanese manufacturers, with a particular depth in vintage and collector pieces requiring careful handling.

Malaysia's climate presents particular considerations for watch maintenance — humidity and temperature variation can accelerate lubricant degradation and gasket deterioration in pieces that are worn regularly. Our service process accounts for these conditions, with attention to sealing integrity and lubrication selection appropriate to local use patterns.

Clients visit us from Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang, Damansara, and further afield. Postal intake can be arranged for clients outside the Klang Valley on request — please contact us to discuss the process before sending any piece.
