Our Approach
What Working With Us Means
A practical account of how Ratna Wira operates — and why the differences in our method matter to the watches in our care.

Six Reasons Clients Return
Written Records at Every Stage
Nothing proceeds without documentation. The intake record, key decisions, and findings are put in writing and shared with you.
Personal Communication
You deal with the same team member throughout. Your watch is not handed between staff without continuity of knowledge.
Component Inspection Under Magnification
Every component is examined before decisions are made. Wear is assessed methodically, not estimated from a general impression.
Time Given to Regulation
Following reassembly, movements are observed over several days. Work is considered complete only when performance is consistent.
Transparent Pricing
Service prices are clearly stated. Any additional cost requires your approval before work proceeds. No surprises at collection.
Pressure Tested Where Relevant
Water-resistant watches are pressure tested after all sealing work. Results are documented and explained to you.
In Detail
Each Benefit, Explained
Professional Expertise
Our principal watchmaker trained in Switzerland and has worked with mechanical calibres for over fifteen years. The depth of calibre knowledge in the workshop — across Swiss, German, and Japanese movements — means that the person working on your watch has likely encountered its particular architecture before.
- Broad calibre knowledge across multiple origins
- Particular depth in vintage and collector references
- Honest assessment of suitability before intake is agreed
Technical Approach
Our service process follows a staged method: written intake, disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning through multiple processes, component inspection under magnification, reassembly with carefully selected lubricants, and multi-position regulation over several days. Each stage has a defined purpose and a defined outcome before the next proceeds.
- Ultrasonic cleaning with staged solutions
- Lubrication matched to calibre specification
- Post-assembly observation period before release
Client Service
We treat communication as part of the service. You are told what we find, what we propose, and what it will cost — before it proceeds. During longer programmes, you are consulted when decisions need to be made. This is not a workshop where watches disappear for weeks without word.
- Single point of contact throughout your service
- Progress communication during Long-Form Programmes
- Responses to enquiries within one working day
Pricing Clarity
Our service prices are stated clearly. Standard consumables — lubricants, gaskets, cleaning — are included in the quoted price. If work outside this scope is needed (replacement of a worn mainspring, for example), we stop, inform you, and wait for your decision before continuing. You will never collect a watch to find unexpected charges.
- Prices published on our Solutions page
- No additional charges without prior approval
- Cost estimate provided at intake assessment
Results and Outcomes
We measure the outcome of a service by whether the watch performs within its intended parameters — not simply whether it runs. Multi-position regulation, pressure verification, and post-work observation are the tools by which we assess the result before returning a piece.
- Rate and amplitude checked post-regulation
- Water resistance verified where applicable
- Documented service history returned with the watch
Comparison
How Our Approach Differs
A plain-language comparison between what many service providers offer and what we do differently.
| Service Aspect | Typical Providers | Ratna Wira |
|---|---|---|
| Intake documentation | Verbal or informal | Written record, shared with owner |
| Photographs of condition | Rarely offered | Standard on every intake |
| Additional cost approval | Often added without notice | Always agreed before proceeding |
| Post-regulation observation | Often skipped | Several days, standard practice |
| Pressure testing | Extra charge or omitted | Included where applicable |
| Conservation approach for vintage | Uniform polishing common | Character preserved by default |
Unique to Us
What We Offer That Others Rarely Do
The Long-Form Programme
An extended, fully documented service programme for watches of personal or collector importance. Not available at most service centres. Timelines run twelve to eighteen weeks, with photographic records and written decisions at every stage.
Period-Correct Parts Sourcing
For vintage references where original character matters, we take care to source components that are appropriate to the piece's era — not simply the nearest available modern equivalent.
Walk-In Availability by Arrangement
We are a physical workshop with a street presence on Jalan Perak. Clients who prefer to hand over a watch in person and speak directly with the watchmaker can do so by arrangement.
Postal Intake for Regional Clients
Clients outside Kuala Lumpur can arrange postal intake through prior consultation. We discuss the process with you in advance and confirm safe packaging requirements before any piece is sent.
